My Houses
created by Tamara Erde

a visual art installation

Wednesday 5/20-Sunday 5/24

Free!

My idea is to research through personal interviews, and collect data, on the subject of how our first home is imprinted in our memory, a shelter of our daydreams?  a reservoir of childhood recollections? And along that- to which direction will it be taken in the future- What are the basic home "elements" in peoples perception that must remain in any future kind of home, and which elements are changeable.
My research will include video interviews with various people on the subject of how they remember their first home, the house they grew up in, while an installation that will follow – will display concrete objects (various physical fragments, photos, the content of drawers etc.), elements that represent "the home" as a generic basis. The installation too  will attempt to identify a common characteristic of the primal memory of "home". The personal interviews will be screened alongside the installation.

The outcome of this project combining documentary video research and imagination inspired installation is to present thoughts about home in its most basic common perception- beginning in peoples conceptions and memories of the "classical" home they had, and ending in physical elements built in the space of the gallery that are as a conclusion of the documentary research- the basic "home" elements that are to be in every future home, and their range of flexibility and metamorphoses they can reach.

"Memories are motionless, and the more securely they are fixed in space, the sounder they are. For a knowledge of intimacy, localization in the spaces of our intimacy is more urgent than determination of dates." (Gaston Bachelard)
