The Trees, However, Are Worthless

Posted in Video Projects

by Charlie Bass

The animals on Plastic Farm work through their own cracked version of Lacan’s mirror stage, wherein the mirror is replaced by mediated images of said animals, further complicating the dawning subjectivity of the process. Bewildered, they don’t know what to do, but hope may come in the unexpected discovery of a soft core relic…

Sample Shakes

by Sanaz Ghajarrahimi

An experiment in theatrical sampling.  What happens when you mix a pre-recorded musical score* and cinematic sampling to tell the story of Romeo and Juliet, in under 5 minutes.  Aimed at discovering what comes across and what falls away.  And how does a the journey of the beat fit into that?

*much of the underlying track is completely due to the genius of Jerome Ellis and James Monaco, and was created independently of any context related to this podcast.  All part of the experiment.

Sound and Sampling design by Sanaz Ghajarrahimi
Composition by Jerome Ellis and James Monaco

Sampling from:
Baz Luhrmann’s R&J
Zeffirelli’s R&J
An “In Living Color” episode parodying R&J

Prelude-Interphase

I. Mitosis
1. Prophase (Prometaphase)
2. Metaphase
3. Anaphase
4. Telophase

II. Cytokinesis

The mitotic cycle is the time during a cells life where it divides itself into two identical daughter cells. It consists of two closely linked processes, mitosis and cytokinesis.

Mitosis has four main phases, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase. The primary result of mitosis is the division of the parent cell’s chromosome into two daughter chromitides, each being an exact replica of the original genetic material. Cytokinesis is the actually division of the cell itself into two identical cells. The two daughter chromitides become the individual chromosomes for each cell.

The end result of mitosis is two identical cells forming from one parent cell. Errors in mitosis are what may lead to certain cancers and genetic disorders.

by Dave McGee

World-renowned renaissance man David McGee is ready to take you on another amazing tour– this time, it’s the Merchant’s House Museum in the East Village, which is slightly East of the West Village, and to the West of Alphabet City, which is itself South of Numbertown and North of Punctuatawny. JUST KIDDING. MOSTLY. Get ready to find out the true history of this very old house, including: how many books it contains! whether or not it contains any fake fruit! and exactly how many people have DIED inside! The answer will shock you — unless you happened to guess correctly, in which case the answer will just confirm your suspicions.

Which is almost — almost — as good.

You know how when you go back into work on a Monday, sit down at your desk, and it seems like you’re suddenly in a science fiction horror film from the 1970s? The following is sort of like that—with all the confusion and fear this entails. Welcome to a crash landing at my desk, an exploration of a strange world, and a teleconference that goes slightly awry.

World-Renowned Renaissance Man David McGee takes you through the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Egypt exhibition on an audio tour unlike any other in the whole entire world. Because this one? IS GOOD. Features interviews with “experts”! We will discuss “spelling errors on museum placards”! The host is potentially “chased through galleries by a mummy and/or museum security”! This audio tour is so mind-blowingly good you won’t actually need to be in the exhibition for it to change your life.
