Groundbreaking Party

GROUNDBREAKING PARTY

Our first event was the GROUNDBREAKING PARTY, which we threw to bring together as many independent artists from as many different communities as we could gather, and to get them creatively interacting with each other.

A bar was set up with liquors that had been removed from their original bottles and renamed things like "lookin' good feelin' good," "sunshine," "mugger," and "complacency." A menu was designed so that, although no one knew what they were drinking, no one threw up.

The living room housed the first two Apartment Art projects. Two puzzles worth of pieces were laid out on a table with a wide array of arts and crafts supplies, and guests were encouraged to decorated the blank sides. Once the pieces were completed, the puzzles were pieced together by their original pictures on the opposite sides. Also involved in the visual art area was the apartment's aquarium -- a blank space of wall that covers a hole meant for an air conditioning unit.

One of the bathrooms was set up as a garden, where the artists could plant seeds and name their plants, allowing us to keep the mebers of the community growing along with the company.

Finally, we set up a closet confessional, with a live video feed running into another room where people could gather, custom flavor their popcorn, and let other guests entertain them.
